The Arts and Culture Department from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University kick started the Campus life festival with a bang, by hosting their annual student concert at the Vodacom Indoor Sport Centre on the south campus last night (20 February 2013).

The annual student concert is aimed at enhancing participation and involvement of student life, through showcasing on and off campus housed students talent in the performance division.

The performances where categorized into: dance, poetry, singing, choirs and a variety of others i.e. rap –beat boxing. 

The judging panel for the evening included Algoa FM’s own Charlie T,R.T concerts manager Bennie Gerber, NMMU Public Relations and communications HOD Adelina Mbinjama – Gamatham, Horbiton’s outdoor educator Julian Arries and Marketing and Corporate Relations Marketing practitioner Karen Snyman.

The Concert was a fun filled episode that even got the spectators on their feet and dancing onstage,”Dj dlala lengoma”.

The Winners for each category were as follows:

Overall winner –Rhythm junkies

Runner ups – Vusikhaya Stali and Gumboot dancers led by Siyabulela Cuntsulana

Best choir – Laboria choir

Best Musician –Amanda Anthony

Most original act – South Point Choir

Best dance –Rhythm junkies

Best poet –Jamie Lee Reynolds

Residence Spirit cup –Letaba Lebombo Residence

NMMU University shop, Rehab, Madibaz, Cassies, Flava’s, NMMU gym, International lab, RT concerts were the sponsors for the event and their services were a huge incentive to the great performances produced at the concert. The Arts and Culture Department thank you for your assistance.
