The Clap and Tap Society is a unique choir that combines harmonious singing with the rhythmic clapping and tapping of hands, rooted in African indigenous musical traditions. It offers students a platform to showcase their musical talents while embracing this vibrant performance style. The society aims to bring students together, promoting cultural understanding, community, and learning through music. We believe music can be therapeutic, helping students cope with academic challenges, make friends, and adjust to university life.
As a growing society, we also aim to preserve and celebrate African musical traditions through our performances. We plan to fundraise by performing at university events, competitions, and other platforms. This will support activities like providing awards, refreshments, and toiletries for disadvantaged students, as well as organising weekend getaways for socialising. These efforts encourage students to focus on the positive aspects of their university journey while fostering unity and cultural pride.
